Your day begins with a warm welcome from your driver, representing Morocco Organized Tours, who will pick you up directly from your accommodation in Merzouga. The adventure starts with a scenic off-road drive into the desert, where your first stop is a visit to a nomadic family living in traditional handwoven tents. Here, you’ll be greeted with a cup of refreshing mint tea and have the unique opportunity to learn about their way of life, customs, and daily routines in the harsh but beautiful Sahara environment.
From there, you’ll head to the Miffis mines, a historic site where locals still extract minerals, including the traditional black kohl eyeliner used in Moroccan culture. The journey continues to the village of Khamlia, home to a community of black-skinned Moroccans who are descendants of sub-Saharan Africans. In this welcoming village, you’ll be treated to a powerful live performance of Gnawa music, a deeply spiritual and rhythmic tradition passed down through generations.
After enjoying this cultural experience, you’ll stop for a local lunch (optional or included), followed by a short visit to one of the desert’s natural oases, offering a peaceful contrast to the vast surrounding dunes. After approximately four hours of discovery and connection, your driver will return you safely to your accommodation, leaving you with unforgettable memories of the Sahara.
