Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at Casablanca Airport, you’ll be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the majestic Hassan II Mosque the largest in Africa and one of the few open to non-Muslims. Take a relaxing walk along the Corniche and enjoy your first taste of Moroccan cuisine in a local restaurant. Overnight in Casablanca.
After breakfast, depart Casablanca and head to Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital. We will have time to visit the Oudayas Kasbah, Hassan Tower, and the royal Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Then continue through the beautiful Rif Mountains toward the blue-washed city of Chefchaouen. Arrive by late afternoon and take a gentle walk through its charming medina. Overnight in Chefchaouen.
Enjoy a quiet morning exploring more of Chefchaouen, known for its calm atmosphere and photogenic streets. Later, drive south to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and walk among its well-preserved mosaics and columns. Then continue to Fes, one of Morocco’s most culturally rich cities. Arrive in the evening and settle into your riad in the old medina. Overnight in Fes.
Today, explore Fes with a local guide who will take you deep into the maze-like medina of Fes el-Bali. Visit historical landmarks including the Al Quaraouiyine University, Bou Inania Madrasa, the colorful tanneries, and artisan quarters. Learn about Morocco’s deep traditions in craftsmanship and religion. Enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant before returning to your riad. Overnight in Fes.
Leave Fes and begin your journey to the desert. Drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane (often called the “Switzerland of Morocco”) and the cedar forest near Azrou, where you might see wild monkeys. After lunch in Midelt, continue through the Ziz Valley to reach Merzouga on the edge of the Sahara. Ride camels into the dunes for a breathtaking sunset and enjoy dinner and music under the stars at your desert camp. Overnight in a luxury or traditional desert tent.
Today is dedicated to discovering the culture and landscapes of the Sahara. After breakfast, depart Merzouga and drive to the impressive Todra Gorges, where you can hike along narrow canyon trails framed by towering cliffs. Continue through the beautiful Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations called the “Monkey Fingers.” Explore local Berber villages and kasbahs along the way. Arrive in Boumalne Dades and check into your guesthouse or hotel for the night.
Drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, stopping at the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a striking mud-brick fortress that has served as a backdrop for many famous films. Explore the ancient village and climb to panoramic viewpoints. Then cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), enjoying breathtaking mountain vistas.
